Yaser is a resident of the camp on #Lesvos. Last week saw rain, strong winds and subzero temperatures. Last night it snowed.
History is repeating itself. Just like the last 5 winters, vulnerable people have been condemned to brave winter in the toughest conditions imaginable.
Picture from a person who lives in #Lipa
Lack of water, very cold temperatures, lack of electricity in many tents, no medical care. No Human rights and no dignity.
Just few km away from EU border.
And with NO POLITICAL DECISION FROM BRUSSELS THAT COULD FINISH THIS SUFFERING
These were taken today at Malakasa camp in Eastern Greece. We have been told that whilst most residents have been moved into heated containers, 900 people are being housed in rub halls with unreliable heating units that regularly fail, leaving people freezing.
This weekend, temperatures dropped and we saw the year's first snow. The prefecture opened temporary accommodation as a token gesture. With an eviction planned early the next morning many chose to spend the night in the snow, instead of losing their tents in the morning.
This is what a police eviction looks like. There were almost 1000 evictions of camps in #Calais last year. This was one of them. To dehumanise people in this way. Its chilling.
Worst of all, this wasnt even a "bad" eviction - teargas & rubber bullets are not uncommon.
This is the horrific situation of thousands of children now in the IDP camps in #Syria. Their conditions are dire & the waters are besieging them from everywhere, as a result of torrential rains. #WhiteHelmets are doubling their efforts to reach all civilians as fast as possible.
This is what winter in Greek refugee camps looks like, and things are set to get worse.
Today snow fell in the north with temperatures plummeting to as low as -8C, snow is also forecast in Athens and on the islands.
No one should be forced to brave winter in a tent.
The world needs to hear what Yaser has to say. Yaser is a resident of the new camp on the Greek island of #Lesvos. Snow is forecast for this weekend. But the tents are unheated. Yasser is really worried.
No one should be forced to live like this.
Yesterday, Ahmed Badaoui was spending the afternoon with his family when Assad’s missiles targeted his home in #Ariha, southern #Idlib.
The 13-year-old boy was rushed to hospital with his mother, who died from her injuries. His father too lost his life under the rubble. 1/4
